PEDICARE ADVISES

Podiatry

What is podiatry?

Podiatry is the field that deals with the lower limb, especially the foot. The name comes from the Greek podos, meaning “foot”, and logos, meaning “study”.

A podiatrist usually works independently in their own practice.

PODIATRY IN SLOVENIA

The first graduate podiatrist in Slovenia

A professional bachelor’s degree in podiatry has been available in Slovenia since the 2021/22 academic year at VIST Faculty of Applied Sciences. At the end of 2024, Tina Jordan, founder of Pedicare, became the first to complete it and the first in Slovenia to earn the professional title of graduate podiatrist.

A pedicurist cares for the feet. A podiatrist has additional training to treat diseases of the skin and nails of the feet, to screen people with diabetes and to work with doctors when a problem goes beyond podiatric care. In Tina’s case, this training builds on more than 25 years of hands-on experience with feet.

At your check-up, we first assess the condition of your feet and nails and then suggest a treatment plan. If the problem needs a doctor, we tell you and refer you to your GP or a specialist.

PODIATRIC CARE

What does a podiatrist do?

Podiatric care includes preventive and curative treatments (non-invasive and minimally invasive procedures) on the feet.

This covers:

  • basic pedicure needs (keratoses, nail and cuticle care),
  • complex pedicure procedures (cracked heels, deformed nails, etc.),
  • medical podiatry procedures for diseases of the nails and skin of the feet (ingrown nails, fungal infections, plantar warts, etc.),
  • other medical podiatry procedures (screening tests for people with diabetes, taking mycological samples and interpreting the results, and making and fitting toe spacers and simple orthoses).
